EDUCATION OUTREACH
The Undersea Voyager Project (UVP) is an exciting expedition that is exploring the depths of the world’s oceans. During October of 2010, UVP will explore the watery depths around Catalina Island. The expedition team will be using research submarines, remotely operated vehicles (ROV’s) and the latest in sonar technologies to assess the marine ecology around the Island down to 900 feet. The team will also be searching for deep-sea creatures, undersea formations and unexplored shipwrecks.
There is an opportunity for as many as 8 students to join the team for part of this deep sea mission by proposing their own research project. Youth who are selected will join the team for 5 days, learn from leading scientists, train with experienced professionals and participate in several facets of this multi-disciplinary oceanographic research expedition.
