OceanGate EXPEDITIONS
Exploring the world's oceans in a manned submersible.
OceanGate Expeditions provides a unique opportunity to join the OceanGate crew as a Mission Specialist to help support research or exploration projects and help advance our knowledge of the oceans. Mission Specialist positions are available during our 2012 expeditions that will:
- Explore shipwrecks and document their current condition using the latest 3D sonar technology to advance our knowledge of nautical archaeology
- Support biological, environmental or geological research projects with the collection of images and data that document the habitat and behavior of threatened and invasive species
- Explore never-before-seen artificial reefs
- Visit iconic and historic shipwrecks
- Observe the hunting and feeding behavior of sharks
“If you have ever wanted to dive beyond the reaches of a SCUBA tank, and know what it is like to explore the ocean depths, this is your chance. The OceanGate team will get you there in a way that is fun and safe and give you something to look back on for a lifetime."
Loretta Hidalgo-Whitesides
OceanGate Expeditions are a rare opportunity for Mission Specialists to join the crew and activily participate in the exploration. You need not have any prior training or skills to participate -- the core OceanGate crew has performed nearly 1,000 submarine dives and will provide all the training.
- Attend the OceanGate Ground School to learn about key submarine safety systems and prepare to participate as an active crew member on a submarine dive. Mission Specialists monitor communications, assist with navigation, photograph the undersea world, and learn to identify local flora and fauna.
- Assist the crew during a dive in a submarine to 936 feet with Explorers-In-Residence or other guest experts.
- Fly a robotic vehicle (ROV) to explore the oceans beyond scuba depth.
- Explore historic shipwrecks, photograph marine wildlife and assist scientific experts, nautical archaeologists and oceanographers.
- Learn from university-based marine research experts and contribute to their work to help advance humanity’s understanding of the oceans.
- Scuba dive with marine experts and undersea explorers.
